The card can be conveniently ordered via the Volksbank website or at a branch. You will then receive all the important PINs and the activation code for secure online shopping by mail.
Card functions at a glance
Like a “regular” credit card, the Volksbank prepaid BasicCard offers a variety of payment options and functions that children and teenagers can benefit from. Below we have compiled the key information for you.
What is a prepaid card?
A prepaid card operates on a balance basis. This means that the card must be loaded with a certain balance before use. Only the amount deposited on the card can be spent. This is particularly advantageous for children and teenagers, as it teaches them how to manage money without the risk of falling into debt or losing track of their expenses.
Loading the Volksbank prepaid card
The BasicCard can be loaded by transferring the desired amount to the individual IBAN of the credit card account. This can be done as an instant transfer or standing order. The amount is available about an hour after the transfer. The loading limit is a maximum of €2000.
Various payment options
The Volksbank BasicCard allows you to make cashless payments worldwide at merchants that accept Mastercard or Visa cards and perform an online balance check. This includes hotels, restaurants, gas stations, department stores, and online shopping.
The card can also be used for online payments and supports apps like Apple Pay. (Google Pay is currently not supported). Additionally, children and teenagers can withdraw cash worldwide from millions of ATMs or bank counters that accept Mastercard and/or Visa.
At what age can you get the Volksbank prepaid credit card?
The Prepaid BasicCard is not just a children's credit card, unlike other providers. The prepaid card is also intended for adults but is suitable for teenagers aged 12 and older, as guardians can control the amount of money on the account. Young adults under 27 also pay reduced fees for using the account and card.
Fees and payment options abroad
The Volksbank credit card for children and teenagers can be used worldwide wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted. However, fees often apply in non-EU countries. For credit card payments in foreign currencies, a fee of 1.90% of the transaction amount applies. Currency conversion for foreign currencies is included in the service.
