The Flatex Junior Depot in the test

Parents are often faced with the question of how they can save money for their children early and effectively. There is increasing interest in so-called ‘junior custody accounts’, which have been developed to combine saving for your children with making a profit.

Take a look at how this junior custody account fits your needs and whether it is a good choice for investing savings in 2024.

What is the Flatex Junior Depot?

The Flatex Junior Depot is a special securities account for minors that enables parents or grandparents to make long-term investments in shares, ETFs and other securities for their children. With a Junior Depot, you can benefit from the advantages of the capital market and build up savings early on for your children's studies, car or first home.

Advantages of the Flatex Junior Depot at a glance

Low and clear fee structure: One of the biggest advantages of the Flatex Junior Custody Account is the low fees. Flatex has a transparent fee structure that allows investors to invest more of their money and spend less on administration costs.

Wide range of investment products: With the Flatex Junior Depot, you have access to a wide range of investment products, including shares, ETFs and funds. This enables a diversified investment strategy that can minimise risk and increase potential returns.

Free preparation of certificates: Flatex will issue you with an annual tax certificate, an annual custody account statement and a loss certificate once a year free of charge. This gives you a good overview of your annual income and expenditure, enabling you to plan properly.

Education tools: The online broker offers families educational tools such as a demo account and webinars. This allows you to better understand the capital market and potentially increase your returns.

Disadvantages of the Flatex Junior Depot

High order commission: Despite free custody account management, the same order costs of €5.90 are always charged, regardless of whether domestic or international orders are placed. This should be taken into account when deciding in favour of or against the Flatex Junior Depot.

Less personal advice: Flatex is an online broker and therefore only offers advice via chat and telephone compared to traditional banks. This could be a disadvantage for investors who attach great importance to personal advice.

Fees and costs for this custody account

    Minimum savings instalment

Users must expect a minimum savings instalment of €25.

    Custody account management fees

Flatex does not charge an annual fee for custody account management

    Order fees

Order fees are charged for each transaction. At Flatex, these are always €5.90 regardless of the area of the security. However, the broker often offers promotions and discounts that can reduce the costs.

    Other fees

In addition to the order fees, further costs may be incurred, such as for special trading centres or currency conversions. Placing orders by telephone or post also incurs additional costs.

How does a securities account transfer work with this provider?

If you would like to switch to Flatex during the course of your investment strategy with another provider, it is also important to know that this is very easy to do.

Custody account transfers are free of charge at Flatex. Fill out the relevant form and send it to the old bank. A transfer can then take up to 3 weeks.

The Flatex hotline and other contact options

Flatex can generally be contacted via two telephone numbers:

    Flatex in comparison

Compared to other junior custody accounts, Flatex offers a solid mix of costs and custody account diversity. However, other providers could do better in certain areas, such as personalised advice or special bonuses for new customers.

Rating: Is the Flatex Junior Depot a good choice?

The Flatex Junior Depot is an option for parents who want to invest early and effectively for their children. The low fees and wide selection of investment products make it a good choice for beginners in particular. However, potential users should consider the cost structure and personalised advice before making a decision.

To find the right junior custody account, parents should also compare several providers. Discover more junior depots in our tests!
